TCACLA Spring Meeting 2017

The next TCACLA meeting will be on Saturday, April 29, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Our featured speaker is Lindsay Hardin Freeman, author of Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter.

In her groundbreaking book, Bible Women, Rev. Freeman identifies every woman who speaks in the bible-womenBible, providing her words, context, and historical background. Each entry lists the woman, her prominent traits, where to find her story, a “classic moment”, and her
Biblical profile. There is a summary of her words, a quick recap of her story, and then some reflections on her life and how she might relate to various areas of modern life.

Rev. Freeman’s other books include a children’s book, The Spy on Noah’s Ark: Bible Stories from the Inside Out and Wisdom Found: Stories of Women Transfigured by Faith.  You won’t want to miss her.  At her presentation to a group at The Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Philadelphia, she received a standing ovation.

The next TCACLA meeting will be on Saturday, May 14, at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. Our featured speaker is Natalia Peterson, author of I’m Not the Pastor’s Wife; I’m Just Married to Him.

From the author’s website: “Enter Talia, a worldly woman raised in a lively, embracing community of Ukrainian immigrants. A chance meeting with a Lutheran pastor, Charles, surprisingly takes them down the aisle. Talia has always been the big-city individualist – Charles is a small-town guy raised on a dairy farm. Talia has an unfettered spirit and personality – Charles has been called to serve as a Lutheran congregation in a small, conservative and very Scandinavian community.”

This memoir is full of quirky observations and candid stories, sometimes humorous and other times tragic, that are intended to show the reader what it takes to find the strength to lead an authentic life.

The Spring issue of Off the Shelf will include a complete schedule for the morning, along with a registration form.  If you are not a member, do not receive the newsletter and would like to attend,  please contact the editor of Off The Shelf for a registration form

Free Lecture Series Ongoing

The Faith & Life Lecture Series exists to create welcoming and accessible public forums for members of the Twin Cities community to hear nationally known speakers reflect on how Christian faith is related to different dimensions of everyday life. The talks are always free public events. The lectures typically last about 50 minutes, followed by a brief period for Q&A after the presentation by the speaker. After the Q&A, speakers are generally available for one-on-one discussion with members of the audience during an informal reception. At most lectures, material by the speaker or related to the lecture subject — books, CDs, or artwork — is available for sale.

Each congregation worships in its own way and together we share common ministries such as education and mission.  More information at http://www.springhousemn.org/
