In Memoriam – Marlys Johnson

Long time TCACLA member Marlys Johnson died peacefully of natural causes on April 2, 2021. She was employed by FluiDyne Engineering Corporation as its technical & research librarian for many years but still found time to spend countless hours volunteering in her church library, most recently at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley. Marlys was recognized at our Spring 2018 meeting for her many years of service to church libraries and to our organization.

Note from Off The Shelf editor, Laura Dirks: I first met Marly in the 70’s, through the Special Libraries Association, when we were both working as corporate librarians. She often talked about her church library, as well as her involvement in the then relatively new Lutheran Church Library Association. I remember these conversations 20+ years later when I joined by church’s library team. While attending a conference sponsored by what had become the National Church Library Association, I wasn’t surprised to run into Marlys. Before I left, she’d convinced me not only to the the Twin Cities area chapter of NCLA but also to become its secretary!

This information was taken from the 2021 spring edition of Off the Shelf. The picture is from an earlier meeting.
